Now that most of us are back from SXSW (and before I head off to TEDActive), I just want to quickly thank all of you for joining Houston’s creative community and supporting our annual COHouston event at SXSW. For those of you in Houston, we’ll have a “share what you learned” event on April 3 at START — details and RSVP info to come. And for all of you who visited us from other parts of the world, we hope to see you in Houston soon. In the meantime, please enjoy these Cactus Music-curated Houston playlists on Rdio or Spotify. (If you do plan a trip to Houston, please let us know so we can plug you in to our great startup community and innovation ecosystem, and hook you up with our hidden gems!)
Much appreciation to the following donors for your personal support:
JoAnn, Karen, Sivaram, Suzanne, David, Dorit, Kim, Gabriel, Rachel, Brian, Charles, John, Amelia, Lilit, Irma, Daniel, Nicole, Amber, Richard, Sheridan, Nicholas, Brandis, Tam, Thanhtam, Lesya — thank you for your generosity!
And to our Sponsors and Community Partners: From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your continued support. We couldn’t do any of this without you, but more importantly, we truly enjoy doing all of this with you.

*** NOTE: DUE TO THE WEATHER, THE COHO PRE-SXSW KICK-OFF PARTY IS RESCHEDULED TO THIS THURSDAY, MARCH 6, 5PM-7PM AT DEAN’S (same location). PLEASE STAY SAFE & WARM OUT THERE! ***
Can you believe it’s our SIXTH year celebrating “America’s Next Great Global City” — HOUSTON! — and its kickass creative community during that little Interactive+Film+Music thingie in Austin every March?!*
This year we want you to RELAX…starting at the pre-SXSW Kick-Off Mixer on March 6 at Dean’s! (316 Main St, Houston TX 77002)
Leave your stress at the door and enjoy a taste of what Houston has in store for Austin during SXSW, including food from local vendors courtesy of Silicon Valley Bank, and drink tickets courtesy of the Houston Business Journal for all who RSVP. We also invite any and all local SXSW speakers, event organizers, filmmakers, startups, and musicians to share tidbits of what they’ll be doing at SXSW. If you’d like to participate, please sign up for a minute at the mic here: http://j.mp/cohokomic14 – even if you’re not going, please visit the list and upvote your faves!
Since space is limited, we’re guaranteeing priority access and drink tickets for donation RSVPS, so RSVP BELOW– even if it’s just a buck! — and thank you in advance for helping underwrite the costs for this event. (All donations to C2 Create (501c3) are tax-deductible to the full extent the law allows.)
However, if you want to attend but don’t have a buck to spare, you’re still welcome to stop by Dean’s on March 6 and try to squeeze in — “5×5″ happy hour specials will be available until 10pm. All of us at C2 Create hope you will join us in supporting #COHO2014. In exchange, we’d be happy to display and distribute any of your literature and banners at the events and on our online properties, as appropriate. To discuss how we can meaningfully integrate your brand with the event and maximize your return on support, please contact Grace Rodriguez at email@example.com. Thanks!
This year we want you to RELAX: #COHO is an unofficial and public event – no badge necessary! – so leave your conference stress at the door and enjoy our “Moments of Zen” stations. If you RSVP below, bites are on us — and if you donate, beverages are on us, too! (AND you can skip the line!) Come early to RELAX and fuel up for the rest of your evening’s activities!!

Have you ever thought the City of Houston’s government websites, forms, and communications in general could use some improvement? And that maybe you (or even your kid) could do better? Well, here’s your chance to put all your “Words With Friends” training to the test and do something about it: For the first time ever, Houston is bringing together writers, designers, and public servants who want to improve government communication to the Freed Montrose Library on February 22nd for the first Houston Writeathon!
Similar to a hackathon — but using common words instead of code — the Writeathon invites the general public to get their hands on some government-speak copy and wrangle it into user-friendly prose. You could change the course of history (no, really!) by simply grabbing a pen and helping with:
Rewrite Challenges: Work with NASA to translate technical challenges into something the public can understand.
Procurement Visualization: Turn the complicated process of doing business with the City of Houston into an easy-to-understand infographic.
Capturing Stories: Profile interesting people from the City and help them tell their story.
Help Boost Local Economic Development: Work with friendly attorneys to interpret new laws that affect craft beer, alternative transportation, healthcare, and many more.
As your mom always said: “Use your words” — come to the Writeathon on Saturday, February 22, at the Freed-Montrose library and help us make change happen for Houston! Please click below to RSVP, or visit http://www.houstonwriteathon.com for more information.
